Our Story
In June 2010, my wife Kinna was admitted to the hospital with a ruptured bowel. She spent 11 days in the hospital, and when she was released, spent another 14 days attached to IV antibiotics at home. This actually started us on a journey that has changed our lives.
Kinna has had Rheumatoid Arthritis since the age of 26. In addition to that, she also has Fibromyalgia and Osteo Arthritis. For many years she was prescribed anti inflammatory medicines for the inflammation and pain associated with her disease. For several years she had to use the assistance of a cane to walk.
She was to have a follow up Colonoscopy in early fall of 2010 to see if she had fully healed from her ruptured bowel. MRI’s in September of that year indicated they could not do the Colonoscopy because she still was not fully healed. Instead they opted to see if she had further GI involvement and did an Endoscopy to see if her stomach and esophagus were involved. The test revealed three large holes in her stomach; ulcers, which were the result of 33 years of anti inflammatory medicines. At that time, she was removed from all pain medicines due to the damage they had done to her gastro intestinal tract. Her doctors wanted to put her on Methotrexate, but we were not in agreement. We felt the risk was too great. It just did not make any sense to take a drug that made it necessary to check her kidneys and liver regularly for any damage. In the end, the treatment could have been worse than the disease.
In October we were in a car accident; rear-ended by a car going 40 miles an hour. There were not any serious injuries and no one was taken to the hospital, but for Kinna, things went from bad to worse because she was unable to use medication to help with her greatly increased pain.
Starting in December of 2010, Kinna received light therapy three times a week. The light was applied to her brain stem, spine, hands, and knees. After her first 3 treatments, she could feel the difference. At the end of two weeks, she felt better than she had in over 20 years.
During that time and for sometime thereafter, Kinna was totally pain free! She now experiences some pain from time to time, but nothing like what she experienced before. Kinna no longer uses her cane to walk, and is able to go on hikes, ride a bike, and go up and down stairs, which she was unable to do before receiving light therapy. Instead of having her take potentially damaging drug therapies, she simply does maintenance with the light every six to eight weeks.
As a side note to all of this, Kinna also suffered from hot flashes as well as migraine headaches. While she was taking light therapy treatments, they all stopped. The results for her have been truly amazing and life changing to say the least. We thank God every day for leading us to find light therapy. As a result of all that we witnessed and experienced, we decided that everyone needed to hear about light therapy. The “rest of the story” as Paul Harvey used to say, can be found in the About Us section of this web site.
